Fatima Sana, the captain of Pakistan, has been signed by the Perth Scorchers for the 2026 Women’s Big Bash, marking one of the biggest foreign signings in the league’s history. The 24-year-old all-rounder is available for the first eight games of the season after agreeing to a one-year contract.
Fatima Sana will be the second player from Pakistan to participate in the WBBL. The first was Nida Dar, who played 11 WBBL games with the Sydney Thunder in 2019–20. Sana was not chosen by any of the eight Big Bash teams after being nominated for the now-canceled overseas player draft the year before. Sana expressed her excitement at being able to compete at last.
Fatima Sana remarked in a statement, “I’ve watched the WBBL from Pakistan and have always wondered what it would be like to be a part of this great competition.” “Wearing the Scorchers colours, representing such a fantastic team, and walking out at the WACA Ground while being supported by folks back home is something remarkable. According to cricket.com.au, Fatima Sana remarked, “This is truly a dream come true.” In international cricket, what has Fatima Sana accomplished?
During Pakistan’s 2019 tour of South Africa, Fatima Sana made her debut for the team. She claimed her first international wicket after dismissing Hobart Hurricanes power hitter Lizelle Lee. Since then, she has played in 134 white-ball matches for Pakistan, and since the 2024 T20 World Cup, she has been her nation’s permanent leader.
The Karachi native was named ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year in 2021, making her the first Pakistani woman to win an ICC award. She created history in May 2026 when she reached a half-century in just 15 balls, the fastest fifty in women’s T20 internationals against Zimbabwe. She claimed 11 wickets at the T20 World Cup this year, earning a spot in the tournament team.
Fatima Sana join the Perth Scorchers
After the overseas player draft was cancelled, the Perth Scorchers took action to sign Sana directly. Given her 134 white-ball appearances for Pakistan and her ability to perform at the highest level with both bat and ball, the club’s recruitment team recognised her as a player who fits their squad profile. The Scorchers are thrilled about what Sana will bring to the WACA Ground, according to general manager Kade Harvey.

We are excited to have Fatima join the Perth Scorchers for the next summer. She is one of the most exciting young all-rounders in the world of cricket. We think Fatima, a 24-year-old proven player, fits our list profile quite nicely, and we’re eager to watch how she performs on the WACA Ground wicket,” Harvey stated.
