Bangladesh cricket team captain Litton Das has refused to step down despite a disappointing performance at the 2026 Asian Games; the national team failed to win a medal for the first time in the tournament’s history.
In the bronze medal match held at Korogi Sports Park on Saturday, October 3, Sri Lanka handed Bangladesh a crushing 63-run defeat. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a challenging total of 165 for 9 in their 20 overs, thanks to an aggressive 65-run knock by Tharindu Ratnayake.
Bangladesh’s run chase faltered, and the team was bowled out for just 102 runs in 17.3 overs. Nasum Ahmed offered a glimmer of hope by scoring 26 runs, while the top order failed miserably. Das himself was dismissed for a duck by a Nuwan Thushara yorker; his total scores across the two matches played in the tournament were just 2 and 0.
Litton Das said, “I think we bowled very well in the first eight overs. Then you saw the kind of shots Ratnayake played on this wicket; it was very difficult.”
I do not want to resign – Litton Das
Litton Das stated, “I do not want to resign. Ups and downs are part of cricket. Sometimes you have a good day, sometimes a bad one. Resigning in such a situation makes no sense. It is a normal occurrence.”
He added, “I came here with a major goal. When I fail to achieve it, everyone feels bad, and that is natural. But as a team, we have delivered a lot in the past. I believe we will do the same in the future. We will try again.” Beyond the results achieved on the field, Litton Das also defended his players following reports that they had left the team hotel without permission.

He explained that due to poor practice facilities and a lack of proper food provided by the organizers, the players had no choice but to go out to maintain the nutrition and energy levels required for the competition.
