In the third ODI being played in New Chandigarh, West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales dismissed Virat Kohli for a ‘golden duck,’ leaving India at 4 for 2 within the first three overs.
Jayden Seales dismissed Virat Kohli for a ‘golden duck
India won the toss and elected to bat first in the third ODI. Expectations were high that Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, alongside Virat Kohli—who was batting at number three—would provide the team with a strong start. However, Jayden Seales bowled magnificently right from the outset. He dismissed captain Gill for 1 run and claimed another wicket on the very next delivery.
Amidst thunderous applause, Virat Kohli arrived at the crease but faced only one legitimate delivery before Seales uprooted his middle stump with a full-length ball clocked at 136.5 km/h; the ball held its line and slipped between Kohli’s bat and pad as he attempted a flick. The PCA International Cricket Stadium, which had erupted with excitement upon Kohli’s arrival, fell into stunned silence as he was dismissed, marking his first ODI ‘golden duck’ since December 2019.

This was Kohli’s fourth golden duck in ODIs and his first in 2,481 days. Interestingly, three of his four golden ducks in this format have come against the West Indies (Darren Sammy in 2011, Kieron Pollard in 2019, and now in 2026), while the other occurred against England in 2013, courtesy of Tim Bresnan.
With this wicket, Seales joined an elite club; he became only the fourth bowler to clean bowl Virat Kohli on the very first ball he faced in an ODI. As for the match, at the time of writing this article, India is batting at 160/4 after 29 overs.
