Prior to the third Twenty20 International between India and the West Indies, which is set for October 11, 2026 at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, former India fast bowler Varun Aaron has advised opener Abhishek Sharma to improve one aspect of his batting technique against spin bowling. The West Indies won the second Twenty20 International at Ranchi after chasing 250 runs, levelling the series at 1-1.
With 21 runs in the first and 20 in the second Twenty20 Internationals of this series, Abhishek has a great chance to help India take the lead in the match in Indore. One area that needs work, according to Aaron, is Abhishek’s propensity to plant his front foot. Using the depth of the crease is, in my opinion, the one aspect of Abhishek Sharma’s game that could use some improvement, particularly when facing spin. Aaron stated Game Plan program, “Abhishek Sharma loves to plant his front foot and really score from there.”

The Indian opening batter’s movement against spin bowling was the main focus of Aaron’s advice. The 27-year-old’s infrequent use of the back of the crease to create extra scoring opportunities was noted by the former India pacer, who saw this as a clear area for improvement in the attacking left-hander’s strokeplay at the top level. He never really goes back to try to score runs or use the depth. The former India pacer went on, “Abhishek Sharma is not someone who steps out too much, but he can go back and use the depth of the crease.”
In addition to his current strength of driving hard from the front foot, it is suggested that Abhishek could open up more scoring areas and give himself more time against spin by moving back and across. If the West Indies use their spinners aggressively in the decider, making such a change could be crucial with the series on the line in Indore.
In the third T20I, what is at risk for Abhishek Sharma?
In the meantime, Abhishek needs just 33 runs to become the sixth Indian batter to score 2,000 T20I runs going into the Indore match. He has amassed 1,967 runs at an average of 32.24 and a strike rate of 194.94 over 64 Twenty20 International matches, including 13 fifties and 3 hundreds.
In addition to giving India a 2-1 lead in the five-match series, Abhishek’s performance in Indore would enable him to achieve a noteworthy personal milestone in T20I cricket, making the match doubly important for the left-hander from Punjab.
