Former India all-rounder Robin Singh has predicted that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be key players in India’s 2027 ODI World Cup campaign. As both players get ready for the tournament, which is set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from October 4 to November 21, 2027, Singh, who played for India in 136 ODIs and one Test, evaluated their current form and experience.

With two hundreds and a 92 in his last five innings, Rohit Sharma has shown great form in ODI cricket lately. As of October 11, 2026, Virat Kohli has scored two fifty-plus runs (74 and 65) and one century in his last five ODI matches. For the forthcoming World Cup, Singh emphasised the significance of both experience and current form. Experience is one thing, I believe. However, I believe that their form is more significant. Naturally, age also brings with it a wealth of experience. Therefore, it’s not really a problem. NDTV Sports cited Singh as saying, “They know what to do.”
Singh emphasised that both players are upholding the standards necessary for cricket in the World Cup. He emphasised that their worth to the Indian team in the competition will be determined by their ability to maintain their fitness and perform consistently. It’s more about playing well, staying in the present, and maintaining your fitness. They’re doing that really well, in my opinion. Thus, no complaints exist. They will undoubtedly be very helpful to the Indian team,” Singh continued.
In recent ODI series against the West Indies, India has been experimenting with a number of players as the team gets ready for the World Cup. Singh agreed that the Gautam Gambhir-led selection committee has a well-defined plan for the competition. I believe they are trying out as many players as they can. They are in possession of their formula. Thus, I’m fairly certain that Gautam and his group have a well-defined formula. Singh remarked, “I’m sure he has a strategy for the World Cup and is aware of the kind of players he wants for the competition.

The prospects of seasoned fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also came up. Given that the World Cup will take place in seam-friendly conditions, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s recall to the T20I team for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand has sparked rumours about their inclusion in the tournament’s plans.
Both bowlers have performed well enough, according to Singh, who has also coached the Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers in the IPL. He emphasised that regardless of age, their bowling prowess is unaffected. Regardless of age, I believe these two are superb bowlers. Last year, I witnessed Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowling in T20 cricket. They have also played a great deal of domestic cricket. In fact, they’ve done enough to give themselves an opportunity to return to the side. “They are both excellent bowlers,” Singh said in closing.
