Even before a single ball is bowled in the 5th T20I between India and the West Indies, which is set for October 17, 2026 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, there has been a great deal of controversy surrounding the match. The BCCI and its official ticketing partner, TicketGenie, have come under heavy fire from fans after ticket prices were increased by 150% just minutes before reservations opened and the entire supply sold out in less than 60 seconds.

5th T20I between India and West Indies is scheduled for October 17, 2026

Prior to the sale, the base ticket price for General Admission categories, including G Upper and H Upper, was advertized at ₹1,000. However, the price was changed to ₹2,500 just minutes before TicketGenie opened for reservations. Lower-tier seats on the ground floor were priced at ₹3,200. Fans who had scheduled their purchases according to the previously announced amount were suddenly faced with a significantly higher price.

Several fans vented their annoyance on Instagram. “What a SCAM! The India vs. West Indies match in Bengaluru” was one post that summed up the feelings of many fans. The initial ticket price was ₹1,000, but it abruptly increased to ₹2,500 right before reservations opened. Additionally, tickets were already listed as unavailable within a minute of the opening. How are tickets supposed to be obtained by true fans? What good is having an official ticketing partner if tickets sell out so fast? People are only concerned about sales on the black market as a result. Very disappointing. @TicketgenieIN @BCCI.”

“IND vs. WI 5th T20I Bangalore tickets: The banner now reads ₹2,500 instead of ₹1,000! A huge leap out of nowhere: corporate greed or looting in broad daylight? Fans are entitled to openness. What is actually happening? Consider it! #INDvsWI.

Tickets for the Chinnaswamy T20I reportedly sold out 60 seconds after reservations opened. Within three minutes of the sale starting, fans who tried to buy tickets reported that all of the inventory had vanished. Social media users were outraged by the sellout’s speed and questioned the fairness and transparency of the process.

“No tickets available,” a fan wrote in a post. in three minutes. sold out. Another fan conjectured on Instagram, “I think everything was already booked in the member sale or something cause the tickets immediately disappeared.”

According to reports, resale tickets are currently being sold on unregulated platforms for four to eight times their official face value, making them extremely expensive for the majority of regular supporters. Many fans are unable to attend the high-profile return of international cricket to Chinnaswamy Stadium due to the last-minute price increase and the nearly instant sellout.

Bengaluru’s grievances are not unique. Other locations for the current series, such as JSCA Stadium in Ranchi and the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, have reported similar issues with ticket scalping and black-market sales. The pattern points to a structural problem with the distribution and oversight of tickets for popular India matches.

Citing the possibility of fraud, cyber police in Indore issued a public warning advising fans not to buy tickets via secondary or unreliable platforms. Genuine supporters continue to lose out despite these warnings because there is no efficient way to stop bulk purchases or pre-sale distribution to private channels.

The host board and the ticketing partner have not addressed the speed at which tickets vanished or provided a public explanation for the price change at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Fans have demanded that both organisations be more open about how allocations are handled and how the official ticketing procedure is set up for upcoming games.
