Former Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane has backed Anshul Kamboj and Aaqib Nabi, stating that a player should not be judged based on their performance in a single match. India struggled to defend a target of 352 runs against the West Indies in the third ODI and lost the match. Kamboj made his ODI debut in this game.

Anshul Kamboj bowled 9 overs and conceded 82 runs in his debut ODI but failed to take a wicket. Rahane believes Kamboj tried his best to bowl well and hit the right lengths. According to him, the pitch offered little assistance to the bowlers, so judging Kamboj solely on statistics would be unfair.
Ajinkya Rahane stated that if the team aims to groom a young player, they must be given consistent opportunities. Dropping a player after just one match can negatively impact their confidence.
Aaqib Nabi made his international debut in the second ODI against the West Indies. He conceded 84 runs in 8.5 overs without taking a wicket. Subsequently, he was dropped from the playing XI for the third ODI, with Kamboj taking his place.

Ajinkya Rahane described the situation as unfortunate for Nabi, noting that he made his debut in a high-scoring match. He emphasized the importance of giving young players sufficient opportunities to prove themselves.
Ajinkya Rahane also shared his views on the frequent changes made to the team selection. He remarked that it is not necessary to give a new player a chance in every match. If a player does not get an opportunity in one series, they could be tried out in the next.
He believes that constantly moving in and out of the team creates uncertainty in the minds of young players. Therefore, the team management should show faith in the players and give them consistent opportunities.
