Aakash Chopra has commented on India’s bowling predicament and provided his evaluation on the viable solutions. In the three-match series against the West Indies, Anshul Kamboj and Auqib Nabi each played a game, allowing the squad to assess their qualifications. Chopra’s analysis sheds light on the selectors’ possible thoughts regarding the bowling attack’s composition.

Aakash Chopra has commented on India’s bowling predicament

Ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, India has made finding a seam bowler who can contribute with the bat at number eight a top priority. Since Harshit Rana was injured during the West Indies ODI series, the squad has been experimenting with several options. This has made it easier for other applicants to compete for a seat on the team.

Three bowlers who can bat at number eight have been utilised by you. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra stated, “You have sworn that you need a batter at No. 8, and I do agree. “Harshit Rana is the front-runner if we consider it that way. He can take wickets, but he can be a little pricey at times. “I’m stamping Harshit Rana’s favour,” he continued.

India’s top choice in this position is now unknown due to Rana’s injury. Chopra acknowledged the difficulty selectors have when the ideal applicant is not available. After that, the analyst focused on the two players who had recently been handed chances in games. But he has the same problem as Hardik. He’s being laid off a lot. And then, who? “It’s difficult,” Aakash Chopra remarked.

From the most recent West Indies series, two contenders have surfaced as possible choices for the seam-bowling all-rounder position. After being taken out of India A’s second four-day encounter against Australia A in Puducherry, Anshul Kamboj made his ODI debut in the series’ third match at New Chandigarh. Prasidh Krishna was sidelined by a left hamstring injury, therefore Kamboj joined the team in his place.

In the third ODI, the former took Nabi’s place in the starting lineup. Since only two have been used, there are two names. Anshul Kamboj is one, and Auqib Nabi is the other. Anshul Kamboj is marginally ahead when you look at how they bowl, even if the sample size is one match each. From an ODI cricket standpoint, Anshul Kamboj has a little more,” he continued.

Aakash Chopra’s assessment seems to have decided the key bowling assault for the 2027 World Cup. The cornerstones of India’s pace and spin options are Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav. Although Prasidh Krishna is a key component of the preparations, there are still concerns regarding the fifth pacer and the ratio of all-rounders to specialist bowlers. Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh are obvious choices. Avoid discussing them at all. Aakash stated, “They ought to be on your team. “Add Krishna Prasidh to that list. You still need to respond to questions. You won’t be able to look at Washington Sundar if you retain Nitish Kumar Reddy,” he continued.

Several contenders are vying for recognition in the fifth pacer spot, which is part of the selection puzzle. Regarding the relative standing of competitors such as Mohammed Siraj and Gurnoor Brar, Aakash Chopra expressed doubt. How India strikes a balance between the value of all-rounders who can contribute with the bat and the necessity for specialised pace bowlers will determine the final makeup of the bowling unit. Washington Sundar and a fifth pacer might be called, or there could be an extra batter. I sense that Gurnoor Brar is currently a little ahead of the fifth pacer, or is he, since he shouldn’t be? The former cricket player turned pundit stated, “I think Siraj should be standing with him.”
