On Monday, October 5, 2026, the Indian cricket board met with the senior women’s squad in Guwahati for a review. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia led the meeting, which was attended by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice captain Smriti Mandhana, and head coach Amol Muzumdar.
The meeting produced no significant decisions. There is no sign of a captaincy change and Harmanpreet Kaur is anticipated to continue leading the team in the forthcoming series against Zimbabwe Women.

The review was conducted in the context of conflicting outcomes for the Indian women’s team. The squad won a gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan and won the Women’s Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, but its June and July 2026 T20 World Cup campaign in England fell far short of expectations. The board and team management were able to evaluate that inconsistent performance across formats throughout the Guwahati session.
Instead of serving as a venue for particular disciplinary or structural decisions, the gathering served as a general performance evaluation encompassing recent tournaments. Officials looked at a time that saw both real highs and a major setback on the international front.
Before the evaluation, the squad had a lot of credit for winning the Asian Games gold in Japan and winning the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The board used the Guwahati meeting to assess how the players and management had reacted to the T20 World Cup elimination in England, which continued to be the main source of concern.

It is unclear if Amita Sharma, the chief selector for women, attended the meeting. Sources pointed out that there was no dispute over her presence or absence, setting this evaluation apart from circumstances that had previously occurred in the men’s setup.
In order to pick the team for a six-match white-ball series against Zimbabwe Women, the women’s selection committee, headed by Amita Sharma, is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
The first bilateral interaction between the two countries will take place when Zimbabwean women tour India. On October 16, 18, and 20, there will be three Twenty20 Internationals in Raipur. On October 23, 26, and 28, there will be three One-Day Internationals in Vadodara.
The selection committee’s decisions have additional weight because the three ODIs in Vadodara will count toward the ICC Women’s Championship cycle, which runs from 2025 to 2029. The decisions taken on October 6 will be closely monitored for any indication of the board’s intended course for the team, as the review meeting was held just one day before to squad discussions.
