Michael Bracewell, an all-rounder from New Zealand, has signed with the Melbourne Renegades for the 2026–2027 Big Bash League. Beginning on December 12, 2026, the 35-year-old will be available for the entire season.
Michael Bracewell has signed with the Melbourne Renegades
After England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow, Michael Bracewell is the second foreign player to sign with the Renegades for the season. Michael Bracewell chose to sign a casual playing contract with New Zealand Cricket instead of his central national contract in order to be available for the entire tournament. I’ve watched a lot of BBL competitions over the years and have always wanted to participate, so I’m excited to join the Renegades. It will be unique to play in Melbourne in front of large crowds at the MCG, according to a club statement from Bracewell.
Since making his debut for New Zealand in 2022, Michael Bracewell has established himself as a true game-winner in all formats. In addition to his all-around abilities, he has leadership experience as New Zealand’s captain in both ODI and T20I cricket.
Over 3,600 runs at a strike rate above 135 and more than 100 wickets are part of his T20 record over more than 200 games. During the 2022 Super Smash, he scored an undefeated 141 off 65 deliveries for Wellington, which is currently the highest individual innings in New Zealand domestic T20 cricket. This was a memorable moment in his domestic career. He maintained that aggressive batting style throughout the 2026 Pakistan Super League, where he scored more than 170 runs. Whether it’s with the bat, the ball or the pitch, I like being able to contribute in a variety of ways, and I’m excited to do whatever the team needs to help us win games’, Bracewell remarked.

Under head coach Luke Ronchi, the Renegades will start the 2026–27 season with a roster that includes both contracted and uncontracted players. Michael Bracewell joins a contracted group that already includes Will Sutherland, Bairstow, and Jake Fraser-McGurk, providing Ronchi with a flexible overseas combination in the bowling attack and at the top of the order.
“We have a lot of options thanks to Michael Bracewell, which is very helpful in Twenty20 cricket. He is a true all-around player. He is a very intelligent off-spinner, can play a variety of roles with the bat, and has a wealth of experience from playing international and franchise cricket all over the world. In the statement, Ronchi stated, “He’s also been trusted to captain New Zealand, which tells you plenty about the way he views the game and the type of character he is around a group.”
