On Sunday, October 11, 2026, Hasan Mahmud became the first fast bowler from Bangladesh to finish a Test hat-trick, making history. The accomplishment was made at Sheik Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi during the one-time Test match against Afghanistan.
Hasan Mahmud’s performance, which included the three consecutive dismissals that cemented his place in Bangladeshi cricket history, ended the first innings with figures of 5 for 55.

Three different methods of dismissal led to the hat-trick. Zia-ur-Rehman was dismissed LBW after Bangladesh successfully reviewed the decision using the Decision Review System, Ismat Alam was bowled with his off stump uprooted, and Qais Ahmad edged a delivery to wicketkeeper Litton Das, who took a low catch to his right.
“It’s a wonderful sensation. You attempt to bowl upright, swing the ball, and take a wicket as soon as you see movement off the wicket. I simply followed my procedure and tried that. Seeing this kind of movement in the morning made me happy. Even though I only took one wicket that day, I wasn’t at all anxious. Mahmud was quoted as saying, “I was looking forward to today.”

Litton Das made a great catch to eliminate Qais. Afterward, Ziaur’s ball struck him squarely on the pad. Litton told me it was going to hit; perhaps it was just a matter of the back foot. “So, yes, we did take the review,” Mahmud remarked.Everyone was considering whether or not the DRS would be hit after we lost a few of them in the first inning. The captain and Litton Das deserve praise. They told me it was going to hit so I could take the review while they were chatting and conversing with each other,” he continued.
Mahmud was the third bowler from Bangladesh to score a hat-trick in a Test match. Sohag Gazi reached the milestone in 2013 against New Zealand, while Alok Kapali did so in 2003 against Pakistan. But Mahmud was the first fast bowler from Bangladesh to be admitted into this exclusive group. After Day 3 of the match, Bangladesh had a lead of 329 runs overall after reaching 223 for 6 in their second innings. All I felt like doing was bowling straight. That is all. Let the ball handle it. Mahmud remarked, “I just bowled at the top of the stumps and followed the line.”
