On Wednesday, October 28, at the Women’s Premier League 2027 mini-auction in Kochi, Keralam, UP Warriorz won wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma at her base price of INR 30 lakh. UP Warriorz was the only bidder in an uncontested acquisition because no other franchise put up a bid for Sushma Verma.
UP Warriorz won wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma at her base price of INR 30 lakh
It has been about ten years since Sushma Verma’s last T20 International appearance. Prior to finding a new home with UP Warriorz through this auction, she was a member of the Gujarat Giants during the first WPL season in 2023.
A total of 146 players were up for grabs at the WPL 2027 mini-auction, with 27 spots available for each of the five teams looking to bolster their rosters in preparation for the forthcoming campaign. The number of well-known players who failed to find a buyer during the session was also noteworthy, especially among wicketkeepers and foreign fast bowlers.
At her base price of INR 30 lakh, Uma Chetry, a member of the Indian team that won the ODI World Cup, was unable to find a buyer. Uma Chetry is the first cricket player from Assam to be awarded a senior India cap. Despite having previously performed for UP Warriorz, no franchise showed interest in her at this auction.
Taniya Bhatia, a former wicketkeeper for the Delhi Capitals, did not receive a bid either, as no team expressed interest in hiring her during the round. Before this auction, Bhatia played for the Delhi Capitals in the league. Even Nuzhat Parween, who had previously been connected to UP Warriorz, was unable to find a buyer. Saima Thakor, a swing bowler who had previously played for UP Warriorz, was also not sold. Despite making her WPL debut in 2024, Thakor failed to take any wickets during the 2025 campaign.

Australian fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck received no bids from any of the foreign players at her base price of INR 30 lakh; all of the teams decided to pass. Similarly, none of the five teams in attendance at the auction showed interest in 19-year-old Sri Lankan seam bowler Mithali Ayodhya.
Rosemary Mair, a fast bowler from New Zealand who was a member of the team that won the 2024 T20 World Cup, was unsold at a base price of INR 30 lakh. Titas Sadhu, an Indian swing bowler who played for India’s Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup-winning team in 2023, also did not receive a bid. Before going unsold at the WPL 2027 mini-auction, Sadhu had played for the Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals during her WPL career.
