Aliss Al Islam, a mystery spinner, is one of the most prominent members of Bangladesh’s 16-man ODI squad for the tri-series that will take place in the United Arab Emirates. Following a run of steady performances in domestic List A cricket, the 29-year-old was rewarded with his first call-up to the 50-over format.
Litton Das, who took Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s place as ODI captain in July, has been confirmed as the tournament’s captain. Nahid Rana is still sidelined as he continues to recover from a side strain, and Hasan Mahmud has also been called back into the team. On October 17 in Abu Dhabi, Bangladesh will begin their tri-series campaign against Zimbabwe. Afghanistan will complete the trio.
With his List A record, Aliss has presented a strong case for recognition on a global scale. The mystery spinner has taken 35 wickets at an average of 17.05 and an economy rate of 4.05 in 19 domestic games. These figures demonstrate his capacity to have an impact while keeping control during a spell.
His worth goes beyond typical spin. Bangladesh has a flexible option at the top of their bowling innings because Aliss can play with the new ball. He has been exposed to other countries, even though his ODI experience has not yet begun. Prior to this 50-over opportunity, he played one Twenty20 International for Bangladesh at the Asian Games in Japan, which gave him a first taste of the country.
He will have the opportunity to show whether his domestic consistency can translate into performances against international opposition in the longer white-ball format during the UAE tri-series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. The choice is in line with Bangladesh’s overarching goal to mix players looking to improve their standing in the national team with well-known international performers.
Due to his ongoing recuperation from a side strain he suffered earlier in the season, Nahid Rana has not been included in the squad. Bangladesh’s preparations have been significantly impacted by the right-arm quick’s absence since he last played competitive cricket in July 2026. Since then, he has been unavailable for the Test series in Australia, the Asian Games in Japan, and the current one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh will look to Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam as their main pace options now that Nahid is out. In addition to strengthening that department, Hasan Mahmud’s return to the team provides the selectors with an extra seam bowling option as they finalise their tournament combinations.
Despite losing his captaincy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is still an important member of the team. According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, he would be able to focus entirely on his all-around contributions with bat and ball throughout the series if his leadership responsibilities were lessened. Litton Das will guide the team through the three-team competition after making an impression in the T20I leadership role prior to being appointed ODI captain.
