The 48-year-old captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Imran Tahir, has stated that he is eager to return to the Caribbean Premier League in 2027. With 16 wickets, the veteran spinner finished as the tournament’s top wicket-taker, tied with Hunain Shah, Alzarri Joseph, and Matthew Forde, after to his remarkable performance in the CPL 2026. He helped the Warriors advance to Qualifier 2, where they were defeated by the Jamaica Kingsmen, who finished as the competition’s runners-up.

Since entering the game in 2018, Imran Tahir has emerged as a pivotal player in CPL history. He just became the first foreign player to reach the milestone of 100 CPL appearances, having taken 146 wickets in 102 CPL games while playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. More importantly, he is now the highest wicket-taker in CPL history, surpassing Sunil Narine.

Imran Tahir has emerged as a pivotal player in CPL history

I feel like this is my home, therefore I can’t wait to come back and play. When I come here, I receive a lot of love. Look, I’m really driven. I really wanted to end [this season] on a high note, and it’s apparent that I want to end my career in front of the Guyanese audience. I only want to express my gratitude to them. Imran Tahir remarked, “I would really like to see myself coming here and saying goodbye.”

Imran Tahir broke the global record for the oldest bowler to take five wickets in men’s T20 cricket on September 10, 2026, when he bowled a career-best 5 for 17 against Saint Lucia Kings at Providence Stadium. His prior record of 46 years and 148 days, which he had set against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the CPL 2025, was surpassed by this. The accomplishment demonstrated his remarkable technical proficiency and athleticism at a later age in professional cricket.

I get inspired to come here, play cricket, attempt to be in shape, and eat healthily. It is challenging because it is really hard to maintain self-control when someone is having ice cream in front of you. But if you want to continue playing for years to come, you have to do that,” Imran Tahir stated. I’m the type of guy who enjoys challenges and other things, therefore there will be questions about me. My role is to contribute to the squad as a player rather than as captain. I believe I did my best, so naturally, I leave it up to the management, the team owner, and the president to determine my destiny,” he said in closing.
