Days before the one-off Test match against Afghanistan begins at the Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 9, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is anticipated to join his team in the UAE by October 6.
Shanto became sick during Bangladesh’s Asian Games assignment in Japan, therefore he was unable to accompany his teammates to the UAE. Although COVID-19 and influenza were ruled out, testing conducted by BCB medical professionals indicated an infection. He was unable to leave with the rest of the travelling company and stayed in his hotel room at that time.

“I’m hoping he’ll be available for the first Test match against Afghanistan. I’ve spoken with him, and he hasn’t been ruled out yet. When you have a fever like this, your body becomes weak. In Japan, he was confined to a hotel and struggled to eat since he couldn’t leave. However, he’s feeling fine now and is generally in good form, according to BCB head selector Habibul Bashar.
After Bangladesh arrived in Japan, Shanto had a low-grade fever that kept him confined to his hotel room for a long time. Recovery was more challenging in the limited setting.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh will play a one-time Test match at the Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from October 9 to 13. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe will play an ODI tri-series from October 17 to 23 after the Test.

If Shanto fully recovers from the sickness that prevented him from participating in the Asian Games, he is anticipated to play a significant role in the tri-series. The tri-series will take place in Abu Dhabi for the first two games and in Sharjah for the remaining ones. Following the one-off Test, Bangladesh will be looking forward to Shanto’s full recovery as they get ready for a hectic white-ball schedule. His batting and leadership will be crucial for the team as they strive to put together impressive performances in all of the forthcoming games in the UAE.
