On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Sourav Ganguly was named head coach of the Delhi Capitals, replacing Hemang Badani, who had managed the team for the preceding two seasons. Although Sourav Ganguly has worked with Delhi’s setup in a variety of capacities since 2019, this is his first coaching position with an Indian Premier League team. Additionally, Sourav Ganguly led the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 earlier this year.

After being exchanged for Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant was brought back into the Delhi Capitals. Before joining the Lucknow Super Giants in 2025, the wicketkeeper-batter made 3,284 runs in 111 games for the Delhi Capitals. In 28 games over his two seasons with LSG, Pant amassed 581 runs. After Lucknow finished last in the IPL 2026, he resigned as captain, and he has since rejoined his old team.
Pant is the ideal middle-order batsman for our situation. He was present and performed admirably for us. When he returns next year, I believe he’ll make the most of the time, space, and games to improve as a player,” Sourav Ganguly stated, as reported by Outlook. You know he likes to bat at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla (Arun Jaitley Stadium), and maybe we’ll see the best of Pant for the Delhi shirt in the future,” he continued.
Sourav Ganguly joined the Delhi Capitals in 2019 and helped assemble the team that made it to the 2020 IPL final. He took a leave of absence to become president of the BCCI, but he has since returned to the team with specific goals for the next campaign. Sourav Ganguly’s appointment is a big deal for the team because Delhi finished sixth in the previous season and haven’t qualified for the playoffs since 2021.I am incredibly thrilled. I spent one season as their director of cricket during my two years there. We lost in the semifinals of my debut season in 2019, and I left as BCCI president.

That’s why I am so looking forward to this season. Delhi is an excellent side, and I’ll do everything in my power to help them succeed. KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs make up a good team. “I hope we play to our potential and I hope everyone understands how good they are and goes and expresses themselves,” Sourav Ganguly said.
Taking Delhi to the top is the driving force. In 2019 and 2020, Delhi was an excellent team. After participating in the team’s formation, I left to take a position as BCCI president. From that perspective, the desire to elevate that team will always be present. There is a lot of talent in the dressing room, so I believe that’s what I will be watching for from the players,” he said.
