Before the IPL 2027 retention deadline, attacking opening batsman Abhishek Sharma is reportedly looking to leave Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings are among the teams being considered as possible destinations. The Delhi Capitals have also been brought up as a potential option.
The left-handed opener has reportedly been dissatisfied with SRH since the team chose to give Ishan Kishan the captaincy, according to reports that surfaced on Friday, October 2. Abhishek had his own aspirations to be captain, according to sources mentioned in the papers, and the decision has caused friction between the player and the team.
Before the IPL 2027 mini-auction, what are Abhishek Sharma’s options?
The Times of India reports that IPL teams have more than a month to freeze their core group of retained players prior to the December mini-auction. Before any official action is taken, that window allows Abhishek and prospective franchises to evaluate their choices.
Along with Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, the five-time champions Mumbai Indians have become one of the more well-known teams associated with the opening match. Another option is the Delhi Capitals, where Yuvraj Singh currently serves as a mentor. Given their alleged closeness, Abhishek might find this appealing.
Since Ishan Kishan took over as captain, Abhishek Sharma’s dissatisfaction at SRH is no longer a secret. He has been a member of the team for a long time, and it is obvious that he wanted to be captain. The Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings were being considered as possible destinations, and since his guru Yuvraj Singh is now a member of the setup, we can’t count out Delhi Capitals either,” TOI cited their source as stating.
SRH’s captaincy decision before to IPL 2027 is the source of the rumoured unhappiness. Before Pat Cummins recovered from injuries to take up his normal captaincy responsibilities, Ishan Kishan had been the team’s interim captain during IPL 2026. Abhishek Sharma has been positioned as vice-captain at best in the franchise’s plans, with Kishan now expected to assume full-time captaincy for IPL 2027.There aren’t many chances for captaincy at the moment.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are two choices, but the majority of other teams seem to be set. Thus, even if SRH and Abhishek decide to split up, the crucial question still stands: where to go? And even if they do agree, how will SRH present itself? A money deal? Trade a player? Many factors,” the person continued.
However, K Shanmugam, the chief executive officer of SRH, has refuted the media claims by calling the stories of Abhishek’s discontent “not true”.
Although SRH’s official stance is that there is no problem, sources suggest that informal discussions have already occurred with several franchisees, albeit nothing significant has emerged as of yet.
