On Saturday, October 24, in the second Twenty20 International against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Ajinkya Rahane stressed how Naman Dhir’s aggressive batting altered India’s chase. When Dhir came to the crease in the eleventh over, India was on 70 for 5 and needed to chase down a goal of 181 runs. With one ball left, India triumphed by four wickets owing to the all-rounder’s counterattacking plan.
In his post-match statements, Ajinkya Rahane stressed how Dhir’s innings affected the game’s outcome.
The former India captain emphasized that the visitors were under a lot of pressure as Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell controlled India’s batting for the first 14 to 15 overs of the chase. Before getting dismissed in Santner’s final over, Dhir scored 31 runs off 17 balls, including three sixes.
Ajinkya Rahane stressed the significance of the finishers who followed, as well as the impact of this aggressive phase on India’s chase momentum. Dhir’s counterattack approach allowed the middle order to accelerate up and complete the successful run pursuit.

After Dhir left, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Tilak Varma completed the pursuit, securing India’s triumph. Varma’s contributions to the successful run chase won him Player of the Match honors. India captain Shreyas Iyer praised the middle order’s bravery, saying the game appeared to be slipping away after successive wickets were taken until Nitish and Tilak shown the determination required to win.
