According to recent media reports, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha could become the Indian cricket team’s next interim chief selector. It is worth noting that the current chief selector’s tenure officially ends in October 2026. BCCI sources have confirmed that Ojha is expected to take over the role immediately after Agarkar steps down.
Agarkar’s final task as chief selector was to pick the Indian squad for the upcoming home ODI series against the West Indies. The BCCI has not cited a specific reason for his departure, nor has it made a formal public announcement confirming Ojha’s interim appointment through September 30, 2026.
reports indicate that the BCCI has asked Ojha to assume this responsibility. However, his appointment will be on an interim basis for the time being.
Pragyan Ojha’s record as a player
As a player, Pragyan Ojha represented India in international cricket across all three formats between 2000 and 2013. He played 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and 6 T20 Internationals for the country. His final match for India took place in 2013 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium—the same match that marked the retirement of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
