On October 28, 2026, the Grand Hyatt Kochi in Kerala will host the Women’s Premier League 2027 player auction. In preparation for the WPL 2027 season, which is slated to take place from January 14 to February 7, 2027, the event is a significant turning point.
The player retention deadline for all five franchises was set by the BCCI on September 28, 2026, so teams completed their retained rosters well in advance of the auction date. Now that retentions are finished, there are 27 spots available for the October 28 event across all franchises.
For those 27 available slots, a pool of 146 players has registered. Twenty of the 27 slots are reserved for Indian players, who make up the 119-player Indian contingent, which consists of 22 capped and 97 uncapped cricket players. Six players from Associate Nations make up the 27-player overseas contingent, which is divided between 14 capped and 13 uncapped players. Seven spots remain available for overseas selections.
In the WPL 2027 auction, which players have the highest base prices?
At ₹50 lakh each, England batter Sophia Dunkley and Australia captain Sophie Molineux are at the top of the base price list. On the day of the auction, their registrations put them among the most well-known names available to franchises.
With a base price of ₹40 lakh, international cricket players Heather Graham and Jess Jonassen, as well as Indian players G. Kamalini and Kiran Navgire, have all joined the pool. Thirty more players from the entire pool have set their base price at ₹30 lakh, making that the most populated bracket in the auction catalog.
What is the tournament window and when will the WPL 2027 auction start?
The Grand Hyatt Kochi auction is set to begin on October 28, 2026, at 5:30 PM. Since the competition began in 2023, Kochi has hosted a WPL player auction for the first time, adding to the league’s list of venues.
Squads will be finalized prior to the WPL 2027 season opener on January 14, 2027, once franchises finish their purchases. All five teams will have roughly ten weeks to prepare their campaigns between the auction and the first match before the tournament window closes on February 7, 2027.
