Former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina has made a significant statement, comparing Tilak Varma and Nitish Reddy to legendary cricketers Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni. Raina believes that the duo of Tilak and Nitish possesses the same quality as Dhoni and Yuvraj.
Notably, during the second match of the ongoing five-match T20 series against New Zealand, India was chasing a target of 181 runs. With the top-order batters already dismissed, India required 68 runs from the final five overs to secure victory.
However, Tilak and Nitish forged an unbeaten partnership of 69 runs off just 30 balls, playing a pivotal role in leading the team to a 4-wicket win. During this stand, Tilak scored an unbeaten 61 off 26 balls, while Nitish contributed a crucial unbeaten 26 off 13 balls. Following this match-winning performance, the former all-rounder shared his high praise for the pair.
Suresh Raina’s significant statement
Speaking recently—as reported by *The Cricket News*—Raina remarked, “No, India is performing exceptionally well right now. Take Tilak Varma, for instance. Back when Yuvi Pa (Yuvraj Singh), Dhoni Bhai (MS Dhoni), and I used to bat at positions 5, 6, 7, and 8, we played with a distinct passion—and I see that same quality in Tilak and Nitish. They possess a unique mindset and have delivered outstanding performances.

Furthermore, they are also contributing to the team with their bowling.” Raina further added, “Nitish is also batting with a unique approach, and it’s great to see this positive mindset of his. Bhuvneshwar’s comeback was also worth noting. Shreyas Iyer has performed well, but regarding the way the captaincy is being handled—I feel that after all these years, I have finally seen a captain with this kind of mindset in this format. He is building a distinct legacy, and I wish him all the best.”
