Lockie Ferguson, a fast bowler, will travel to Auckland to rejoin the group for the fourth and fifth Twenty20 Internationals, but will not be part of the team in Wellington.
On October 30, New Zealand will face India at Eden Park. The series will finish on November 1 at Hamilton’s Seddon Park. As the team prepares for the three-match ODI series, which begins on November 4, Matt Henry, who played in the early games, will remain in Christchurch and join the ODI squad in Auckland on November 2. He will miss the rest of the T20I leg.
On Sunday, October 25, New Zealand Cricket revealed a radical restructuring of the BLACKCAPS’ T20I squad, ahead of the final three games of the five-game series against India. The changes were inspired by the need to manage workload across a hectic international calendar. The team will travel to Wellington for the third Twenty20 International on Tuesday, October 27, at Henry Farm Stadium, having lost both of their first two games by four wickets.
Given the amount of cricket anticipated this summer, New Zealand’s head coach, Rob Walter, has been open about the need of effectively managing his fast bowlers. The three-match ODI leg that immediately follows the T20I series against India places a significant physical demand on the pace attack in a short period of time.
Kyle Jamieson will be eligible only for the third Twenty20 International in Wellington, having missed the first two. He will subsequently remain in the city to play for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy second round at the Cello Basin Reserve on October 31, before returning to the national squad for the ODI series. Blair Tickner has been added to the T20I squad for the next three games to help offset the pace bowling shortage, while Josh Clarkson, a fellow Central Stag, will be available for the fourth and fifth T20Is after joining the team in Auckland.
Matt Fisher has been recruited as cover for Wellington’s third Twenty20 International on October 27, giving the team an extra speed option at Hnry Stadium. Fisher’s participation is merely temporary; once his cover duties are completed on Wednesday, he will return to the New Zealand A squad at Lincoln University.

His presence is part of a bigger strategy to maintain a diversity of quick bowling options while not overburdening any one player. The arrangement ensures that Fisher continues his preparation with the A team while also allowing management to make a late decision if necessary.
New Zealand’s updated Twenty20 International squad for the India series:
Mitchell Santner (captain), Tim Seifert (wk), Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Bevon Jacobs, Michael Bracewell, Nathan Smith, Adam Milne, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson (fourth and fifth T20Is), Kyle Jamieson (third T20I only), Matt Fisher (cover for the third T20I), Blair Tickner (final three T20Is), Josh Clarkson.
